WHO WE ARE

We are BHI5 (beehive).
A non-profit organization that is dedicated to building a platform and community that is run by creative professionals and for creative professionals. Through a variety of events held around the globe concerning various social and public issues.

Our mission is to create a platform for industry professionals to connect, share and learn, as well as welcome and lead the way for newcomers.

WHAT IS DESIGN H(IJ)ACK RESIDENCY PROGRAM?

"DESIGN H(ij)ACK"
When art/design meets public space. A selected group of mentors leading an immersive workshop where they join our participants to create design projects that tackle real-world social and public conundrums.

For participants:
  • An alternative to a summer internship.
  • An intensive workshop where you can get hands-on experience with real-world projects.
  • A tailored cross-disciplinary field course led by established industry professionals and employers.
  • A platform to build networks and connections, make real friends, and have fun.
  • A summer getaway from the pandemic, the politics, and everything that you are sick and tired of, where you can clear your mind and focus on what is truly important to you.

For our mentors:
  • A platform to connect with extraordinary young blood.
  • A gathering where they can connect with fellow industry leaders.
  • A place to give back to the community by bringing their unique projects and sharing their invaluable experience.
  • A field trip for fun and inspiration.

ABOUT DESIGN H(IJ)ACK @TULUM

This summer, we bring Design H(ij)ack to the coastal city Tulum, Mexico, a place undergoing drastic changes induced by waves of immigrants. People move to Tulum with all different intentions and purposes, from asylum seekers to traveling artists to wealthy tourists. The complexity of the composition of the immigrants has caused a clash between modernized development and affordable living space.

For this Design H(ij)ack program, we will be undertaking a full development cycle to create design prototypes that tackle issues under this overarching context.

As almost all real-world design projects are cross-disciplinary work, students and professionals with backgrounds in arts, design, architecture, urban planning, computer science, and engineering are all welcomed to apply.

The experience and exposure was more benificial than my undergrad at SAIC. The connections, network, and friends I gained from this program kick-started my career.
Participating in DESIGN H(ij)ACK was a great decision.
